Reading Materials and Podcasts to Learn More About Climate Risk

Abstract

As we do every month, we’re wrapping up this newsletter with a selection of articles, reports, standards, podcasts, and other resources that we believe are particularly useful for exploring the topic covered in greater depth. In this issue, dedicated to Climate Risk, we’ve compiled some of the key international references on climate change, organizational resilience, and adaptation, along with the book of the month that I’d personally like to recommend toResilience Leadershipreaders.

Climate risk is one of the most interdisciplinary issues that a resilience manager faces today. Understanding its implications means going beyond traditional business continuity or risk management, integrating insights from the fields of climatology, sustainability, finance, risk engineering, fire protection, and corporate governance.

Hosted by Christiana Figueres, Tom Rivett-Carnac, and Paul Dickinson, it is one of the most popular international podcasts on the topic of climate transition. Although it is not specifically aimed at resilience professionals, it offers numerous insights into how climate change is influencing corporate strategies, governance, investments, and public policy.

Book of the Month

For this issue, I’d also like to recommend a book that, while not a manual on business continuity or risk management, I consider extremely useful for understanding the systemic impact of climate change.

Thebookis*The Uninhabitable Earth*byDavid Wallace-Wells, an essay I read with great interest and which I recommend to anyone who wants to explore the topic in greater depth, going beyond news reports of extreme events and media debates. Although written in an accessible style, the book offers numerous points for reflection on possible future scenarios and the transformations that climate change could bring about in economies, infrastructure, supply chains, and, more generally, in the way organizations will need to address the concept of resilience in the coming decades.

This is not a technical text, nor does it claim to provide definitive answers. Precisely for this reason, I believe it is an excellent supplementary read for professionals working in risk management, business continuity, and resilience management who wish to broaden their perspective.
